The Regional State Administrative Agency for Southern Finland granted an environmental permit for the battery material plant that is planned for Hamina by our associated company CNGR Finland. This is a major advancement in the EUR 500 million capital expenditure project. On an annual basis, the plant will produce 60,000 tons of precursor material (pCAM) for electric vehicle batteries.

“The decision is in line with our expectations, and obtaining the environmental permit is a major milestone for us moving forward. The region is seeing the emergence of a major centre of expertise for the battery industry, which will have a positive impact on the economy and employment,” says Thorsten Lahrs, CEO of CNGR Finland.

CNGR Finland's goal is to build a state-of-the-art production plant that utilises the latest technology in the industry. The priority procedure for permits for green transition projects was applied to this project.

In its decision, the Regional State Administrative Agency states that the planned operations meet the requirements set for such activities in the Environmental Protection Act, the Waste Act and the decrees issued under them, as well as the requirements laid down in the Nature Conservation Act and the provisions issued under it.
