Keliber aims for lithium hydroxide production

Our portfolio company Keliber is a mining and battery chemicals company that has initiated a phased ramp-up of production in February 2026. The company wants to accelerate the electrification of transport and smart storage of energy by producing battery-grade lithium hydroxide for the European market.

This is Keliber.

Construction of the production facilities was completed

Keliber's lithium reserves in Central Ostrobothnia are among the most significant in Europe. The company holds several advanced lithium deposits in a Central Ostrobothnian area that spans over 500 square kilometres. The area also has excellent potential for increasing ore reserves and discovering new deposits.

Keliber's mining operations are to be located in the Kaustinen, Kokkola and Kruunupyy areas. The concentrator has been built in Kaustinen, from where the spodumene concentrate is transported to the Kokkola Industrial Park, where the company has constructed a lithium hydroxide refinery. Construction began with preparatory work at the end of 2022 and was completed in April 2026.

We are the second-largest owner of Keliber

Finnish Minerals Group owns 20% of Keliber, and we are the second-largest owner of the company. As a result of the ownership arrangements in 2022, Sibanye-Stillwater, an international company focusing on mining operations and mineral refining, became Keliber’s majority owner.
